Project FULCRUM

FULCRUM is a complete vehicle platform comprising:

  • Seven-seat utility vehicle

  • Battery-electric driveline (both axles)

  • Inclusion of range extender (1,000km range)

  • Multi-material body structure: composites & metallics

  • Novel ride-height adjustable suspension

  • Styling, body exterior & interior can be included to suit customer requirements

FULCRUM Body Structure

FULCRUM utilises Beyond Steel’s modular body structure technology with a carbon fibre/glass fibre hybrid composite

  • Lightweight Coefficient 1.1

  • Mass 220 kg

  • Torsion Stiffness 38 kN.m/degree

  • Bending Stiffness 19 kN/mm

  • 1st Torsion Mode 69 Hz

  • 1st Bending Mode (vertical) 75 Hz

  • 1st Bending Mode (horizontal) 73 Hz

Life-Cycle Analysis

A simplified informative LCA shows the overall savings in abiotic resources & water for our composite body structure vs an aluminium equivalent & a multi-materials metallic structure

  • with a push towards improved sustainability, we lower overall resource usage

  • the same trend is seen with materials transportation emissions

  • the same trend is seen with CO2 emissions during production & in use

Modular Assembly

Our modular body structure is assembled from twelve 3D composite mouldings (and a few metallic parts)

The same architecture is available for all vehicle types & sizes

Only three stations are required for body structure final assembly

FULCRUM Architecture

Project FULCRUM has been worked through to concept completion by a consortium of well-known vehicle engineering companies & engineers across the globe.

The complete concept is available to take further to prototype build & test or ultimately to production as a system or sub-systems. Each partner within the consortium will have to approve their areas or expertise & IP ownership.

The architecture is applicable to any car & SUV.

Production was worked through to cost estimate

  • process-rate trials carried out on technology samples

  • sample 3D parts have been manufactured (available to view upon request: UK, India, & Taiwan)

  • 10,000 units per annum were assumed for cycle-time development & costing
